Simple But True: Great Pokémon Promos Matter
A simple fundamental when buying sealed Pokémon products for a long-term hold.
It can be easy to dismiss something so simple, but you’d be missing out.
When it comes to sealed Pokémon products, promo cards matter!
For example, over the past year, after years of little to no price movement, the Arceus V Figure Collection box has quietly risen 300% from $40 USD to $120 USD.

1 year price history o the Arceus V Figure Collection box on TCG Player.
This product was originally released all the way back in May 2022 and it had a lot going for it right at release. To start, it included a great promo card: an alt art Arceus V that was the English version of a card awarded to Japanese customers who pre-ordered Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
But, even more than that, it also included a Cosmic Eclipse booster pack as one of it’s four booster packs. Even in early 2022 a Cosmic Eclipse booster pack sold for around $12 USD: nearly half the collection box’s $24.99 MSRP price.
And, the remaining booster packs weren’t bad either, although they didn’t feel like it at the time: 1 Chilling Reign and 2 Brilliant Stars packs.
The catch: they printed a lot of these boxes. So much so that the Pokémon Center had weekly order limits of 12 boxes of this collection box, and they still stayed in stock for months.
But, this is why having a great promo card matters: it gives people a reason to open the box. And any reason to open the product causes the supply of sealed products to decrease over time, eventually driving the value up considerably.
And the number 1 reason people open sealed Pokémon products? A great promo cards. Especially when the market surges and new collectors and investors enter the market.
The Arceus V Figure Collection box is just one of many examples. Take a look at these other products:
It’s simple, but it’s effective: when a sealed product includes a great promo card, it’s likely a great long-term hold.
As usual,
